The Pacte Industrial de la Regi\u00f3 Metropolitana de Barcelona held its\u00a014th General Council\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a047th meeting of the Executive Committee <\/strong>online on July 16th.<\/p>\n\n

Jaume Collboni<\/strong>, First Deputy Mayor for Economy, Work, Competitiveness and Finance of Barcelona City Council, has been appointed President of the General Council of the Pacte Industrial.<\/strong>\u00a0Collboni replaces\u00a0Agust\u00ed Colom<\/strong>, professor at the University of Barcelona and former Chancellor of the Barcelona City Council, whom he has thanked for his four years as the Head of the General Council of the association. \n \n\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

During his speech, Collboni <\/strong>defended the need for policies that strengthen and support local actors and their transformation <\/strong>to meet the strategic challenges we were faced with before the Covid-19 crisis. \u201cWe need industrial policies to strengthen our ecosystem to drive\u00a0Industry 4.0<\/strong>, making a leap forward in digitalisation<\/strong> and artificial intelligence\u201d<\/strong>, he pointed out. The new President of the General Council of the Pacte Industrial also stressed that the current crisis makes the transformation <\/strong>of our industry towards frameworks based on environmental and social sustainability <\/strong>more urgent, emphasising the potential of metropolitan Barcelona <\/strong>to become the\u00a0capital of green entrepreneurship<\/strong>. Finally,\u00a0Collboni<\/strong>\u00a0pointed out the importance of an\u00a0effective public-private partnership,<\/strong> in order to maximise the value shared by people and actors in each of the territories.<\/p>\n\n

In this sense, the managing director of the Pacte Industrial, Carles Rivera<\/strong>, stressed the need to produce goods and services<\/strong> by incorporating the challenges of sustainability<\/strong>, energy transition<\/strong> and decarbonisation <\/strong>of industry, and transforming its value chains in order to transition to the circular economy<\/strong>. Rivera <\/strong>recalled that “this context calls for evidence-based public policies<\/strong>” and stressed the need to evaluate economic and social policies in order to obtain the maximum social value for every euro invested.<\/p>\n\n

The General Council also approved the appointment of the vice-presidencies:\u00a0Eva Menor<\/strong>, president of the Economic Development, Tourism and Trade Area of \u200b\u200bthe Barcelona Provincial Council, has been appointed vice-president representing the city councils and other local administrations. And, in view of the annual rotation provided for in the Corporate Bylaws, Sergi Fuster,<\/strong> of PIMEC, has taken over from M. Rosa Fiol, <\/strong>of AEBALL and representative of Foment del Treball, as vice-president on behalf of business organisations<\/strong>. Josep Santcrist\u00f2fol,<\/strong> of the UGT de Catalunya, has taken over from Carlos del Barrio,<\/strong> of CCOO de Catalunya, as vice-president representing the trade unions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

The Pacte Industrial continues to grow<\/h2>\n\n

During the meeting was approved the adhesions<\/strong> of the municipal councils of Sant Andreu de la Barca<\/a><\/strong> and Badia del Vall\u00e8s<\/a><\/strong> as new ordinary membres, and the Barcelona Zona Franca Consortium<\/a><\/strong> and the Sabadell 1559 Industrial Foundation<\/a><\/strong> as collaborating entities. With these new members, the Pacte Industrial continues to expand and includes the incorporation of new entities that works to promote industrial competitiveness, encourage job creation and improve social cohesion and sustainability.<\/p>\n
