The document Proposals for new innovation policies in Spain 2023-2027,<\/em><\/strong> drawn up by the IND+I<\/strong><\/a> Council and the Forum of Innovative Companies (FEI)<\/strong><\/a>, advocates placing the competitiveness of companies as the main focus and purpose of innovation policies<\/strong>. Taking advantage of its presentation on 20 October last in Viladecans, an event was organised with the collaboration of the Industrial Pact<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Within the framework of the event, a dialogue on business and innovation <\/strong>took place with the interventions of Josep Martin,<\/strong> director of R+D+i of Manufactura Moderna de Metales<\/a>, and Catalina Balseiro<\/strong>, director of Innovation and Knowledge of Aig\u00fces de Barcelona<\/a>; and the moderation of Sergi Fuster<\/strong>, president of the Innovation Commission of the Industrial Pact and representative of PIMEC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

The company at the centre of innovation<\/h2>\n\n

Catalina Balseiro <\/strong>emphasised that innovation policies must create spaces to foster technological advancement and achieve <\/strong>specific objectives related to climate change and resource efficiency<\/strong>. She also pointed out that technological innovation is essential <\/strong>to address the current challenges companies are facing, and that it is very important to develop implementation models to enable its scalability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Josep Martin <\/strong>detailed that the three fundamental factors <\/strong>to promote innovation are knowledge<\/strong>, the ability for innovation to reach the market <\/strong>and spaces for collaboration<\/strong>.\u00a0Martin <\/strong>argued that technological centres must encourage startups <\/em><\/strong>and he emphasised the importance of training and professional development <\/strong>of workers to encourage innovation.<\/p>\n\n

Culture of innovation<\/h2>\n\n

During the event reception, Carles Ruiz<\/strong>, mayor of Viladecans, president of the IND+I and secretary of the Industrial Pact, explained that the IND+I was created six years ago <\/strong>with the aim of generating perspective on the future of industry and innovation<\/strong>, to have the ability to understand the opportunities <\/strong>presented to companies and the administration, and to disseminate the culture of innovation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

For her part, Vanessa Blanch<\/strong>, representative of the FEI, indicated that innovation attracts progress and economic and social wealth <\/strong>– which translates into increased well-being for everyone – and promotes a culture of continuous improvement <\/strong>– which allows companies to grow and become more competitive and productive. Therefore, given its importance, she insisted that it must be included in the country\u2019s strategy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

Twelve driving proposals<\/h2>\n\n

This shared vision between both entities has motivated the preparation of this document, of which the twelve driving proposals have been presented<\/strong>. Those responsible for this are \u00c0urea Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, on behalf of the IND+I, and Ezequiel Navarro<\/strong>, Rosa Siles <\/strong>and Vanessa Blanch<\/strong>, on behalf of the FEI.\u00a0Rosa Siles <\/strong>mentioned the need to update government structures <\/strong>related to innovation and proposed the creation of a National Innovation Council<\/strong>. She also mentioned the need to address tax incentives<\/strong>, new financial instruments <\/strong>and the simplification of administrative procedures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

For Ezequiel Navarro<\/strong>, innovation is about doing things differently, <\/strong>so they generate more value, whether economic, environmental or social.\u00a0Navarro <\/strong>suggested establishing a venture capital fund <\/strong>and a mutual guarantee fund <\/strong>to support companies with international patents and in litigation<\/strong>. Another proposal has been to create a country brand <\/strong>that fosters innovation \u201ccreated in Spain\u201d. The speakers recalled that innovation is not a linear process <\/strong>and requires collaboration between all actors in the innovation ecosystem<\/strong>, including companies, academia, civil society and government. They also called for society to demand and promote innovation.<\/p>\n\n
