This new model of <strong>sustainable construction<\/strong> also implies taking into account the entire serviceable life of the building, including its dismantling, during building planning. The study proposes <strong>70 specific initiatives<\/strong> for transforming the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presentation took place in the Roca Barcelona Gallery and was delivered by <strong>Carles Ruiz<\/strong>, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Pacte Industrial and Mayor of Viladecans; <strong>Carles Vel\u00e1zquez<\/strong>, Director of Marketing at Roca Group; <strong>Gregori Cascante<\/strong> and <strong>Sonia Llera<\/strong>, Managing Director and consultant, respectively, at Daleph Group, the company charged with conducting the study; and <strong>Carles Rivera<\/strong>, Managing Coordinator of the Pacte Industrial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Lsydc6balz4\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SECTOR CHARACTERISTICS AND FUTURE SCENARIOS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction industry is characterised by its fragmented nature, evidencing a <strong>low level of cooperation and business association<\/strong>, <strong>decreased building quality<\/strong>, an <strong>environment lacking industrialisation and innovation<\/strong>, the overuse of <strong>subcontracting<\/strong>, thereby limiting specialisation within the sector, and <strong>poorly-trained and low-skilled labour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the numerous <strong>future<\/strong> scenarios identified, the study points towards a <strong>transformation in the sector&#8217;s current model<\/strong> through a <strong>radical change in culture and our way of thinking and acting<\/strong>, in efforts to form a new production model that guarantees <strong>sustainable<\/strong> and robust industry and economic <strong>growth<\/strong>. The new model should lend greater importance to <strong>innovation<\/strong> and worker <strong>training<\/strong> and use <strong>rehabilitation<\/strong> as the driving force for recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE NEW CONSTRUCTION MODEL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new model is founded on <strong>sustainable construction<\/strong>, a concept that implies <strong>taking into account the entire serviceable life of the building<\/strong>, including dismantling, <strong>during building planning<\/strong>. This requires:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ensuring that the number of building projects corresponds to <strong>existing needs<\/strong>, taking into account the part corresponding to market friction.<\/li><li><strong>Planning for and making rational use of resources<\/strong>: land, labour, materials, etc.<\/li><li>Introducing <strong>energy saving and efficient<\/strong> measures, and not just employing materials designed for such purposes, but also applying innovative construction and planning techniques that make these concepts possible.<\/li><li>Creating <strong>skilled, professionalised labour <\/strong>acquainted with correct building techniques: <strong>good construction work<\/strong> allows for more time before maintenance and repairs become necessary, they will be less costly and subsequently require fewer resources.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ACTION PLAN:<\/strong> <strong>70 INITIATIVES FOR TRANSFORMING THE SECTOR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed action plan is divided into seven action areas and suggests <strong>seventy specific initiatives<\/strong> that should be implemented over the next fifteen years.
