The Industrial Pact

The Pacte Industrial de la Regió Metropolitana de Barcelona (Barcelona Metropolitan Region Industrial Pact) is an association that was set up in 1997 with the mission of creating a strategic alliance between public administrations, business organisations and trade unions, in order to promote industrial competitiveness, encourage job creation and improve social cohesion and sustainability throughout the metropolitan region.

Under the aegis of this alliance, the Pacte Industrial has secured the support of 50 town councils, 11 business organisations, the 2 largest trade unions, the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona Provincial Council, Barcelona Metropolitan Area, 6 county councils, 6 universities and a variety of institutions related to the field of economic development.

The Metropolitan Region of Barcelona comprises the counties of Alt Penedès, Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Garraf, Maresme, Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental. It is one of the most important industrial areas in Europe, and is also home to the majority of the population of Catalonia.
