Jordi Valls: new president of the Pacte Industrial General Council

15-12-2023

The Industrial Pact of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region held its 27th General Council online on December 15th.

Jordi Valls, fourth deputy mayor for Economy, Finance, Economic Promotion and Tourism of Barcelona City Council, has been appointed president of the General Council of the Industrial Pact. Valls replaces Jaume Collboni, current mayor of the city, whom he has thanked for his work for nearly three and a half years at the head of the association’s General Council.

During his speech, Valls emphasised how “the Industrial Pact, in its 25 years of existence, has allowed the efforts of all agents in the metropolitan area to contribute to the promotion of a more sustainable economic model, committed to the environment, the creation of quality employment and social cohesion”. According to Valls, “the current economic context of energy crisis, inflation and geopolitics further showcases the need to combine the forces of all socio-economic agents to promote with greater determination the energy transition and a more sustainable production model, based on ‘circular economy and the digitisation of the industry’. Finally, the deputy mayor recalled that “the EU Next Generation funds represent an opportunity to provide a new impetus to the change of the productive model of the metropolitan area” and he added that “the strategy to do this necessarily involves an effective public-private collaboration”.

The annual meeting of the Industrial Pact was attended by representatives of the town councils and entities that make up the association, some of whom participated for the first time after the appointments made following the municipal elections that were held last May.

The managing coordinator of the Industrial Pact, Carles Rivera has presented the 2022 Activity Report and has pointed out what the lines of work have been during 2023, which continue to focus on fostering spaces for the generation of proposals and exchange of good practices in economic and industrial development, reaffirming the Industrial Pact’s commitment to public-private collaboration, sustainability and social cohesion.

The General Council also approved the appointment of the vice-presidencies. In view of the annual rotation provided for in the Corporate Bylaws, M. Rosa Fiol, of AEBALL and representative of Foment del Treball, has taken over from Sergi Fuster, of PIMEC, as Vice President on behalf of business organisations. Liliana Reyes, of CCOO de Catalunya, has taken over from Omar Minguillón, of the UGT de Catalunya, as vice-president representing the trade unions. Eva Menor continues as 3rd vice-president, representing the city councils and other local administrations. She is the president of the Economic Development and Tourism of the Barcelona Provincial Council.
